The Ghana Science Association (GSA) donated one thousand (1000) copies of Volume 6, number 1 of the EVERYDAY SCIENCE FOR SCHOOLS (ESS) Magazine to the Ministry of Education through the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE) on Thursday, July 30 2020, at the Council Chamber of the NCTE.
The National Treasurer of the GSA, Professor Regina Appiah-Opong (Mrs) who presented the magazines on behalf of the executives and members of the GSA said in a brief statement that the GSA traces its origin from the West African Science Association (WASA) which was formed in 1953 at the University College of the Gold Coast to provide West African Scientists with the forum to advocate the importance of Science and Technology as the bedrock for national development.
The Honourable Minister of State in charge of Tertiary Education, Professor Kwesi Yankah, who received the magazines on behalf of the Ministry of Education said the government is in support of the main objective of the GSA, which is to encourage scientific and technological researches that contribute to the socio-economic development of Ghana. He gave the assurance that the magazines would be sent to Senior High Schools and Colleges of Education across the country to be put to good use and also encouraged all stakeholders to emulate the kind gesture of the GSA.
The Executive Secretary of the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE) Professor Mohammed Salifu in his closing remarks said the GSA is the best team to make the study of Science more fun as it appears a lot of people are “running away” from Science. He also thanked the GSA for the donation.
Present at the ceremony were Professor Elsie Effah Kauffman (Mistress, National Science and Maths Quiz), Dr. Jacob K. Agbenorhevi (Editor, ESS), Forson Dzortor (Principal Scientific Administrative Officer, GSA), Wisdom S. Sebuava (Scientific Coordinator, GSA) and Mrs. Hilda A. Asante (Head of Publications, Documentation and Public Relations, NCTE)
